EXALT is a music ministry supported by Arlington's Office of Youth, Campus and Young Adult Ministries to provide music for liturgies around the Diocese. Our main events are called "EXALT: An Evening of Worship." These are Holy Hours occurring 6-7 times per year, hosted by at least one parish in each of the 7 deaneries of Arlington. A typical Evening of Worship is 90 minutes of Eucharistic Adoration with music and moments of silent prayer. We collaborate with the host parish to have clergy available for Exposition, Benediction and to offer confessions for anyone in attendance throughout the Holy Hour. I lead the group of young, skilled vocalists and instrumentalists who have served together at the St Robert Bellarmine chapel at GMU and throughout the Diocese of Arlington for several years.
Historically, EXALT has been centered around reverent, contemporary praise & worship songs, and we execute this at a high level. In addition, as we have grown in recent months, we are adding more Gregorian chant and traditional motets into our repertoire. We like to sum up this dichotomy with St. Augustine’s characterization: “O Beauty, ever ancient ever new.” We are excited to be able to work with parish leadership and tailor the music to make it as impactful and reverent for their community as possible. Our goal is to create the ideal space for the Lord to move and transform people's hearts.
